Rise and Shine Yoga

Week 6 was all about waking up both sides of our brain and getting both the right and left hemispheres to work together.  We warmed up with several "cross crawl," exercises and took a field trip to get the yoga balls from the health classroom.  We spent a few minutes bouncing on the balls to get the sillies out and then we were able to do some serious yoga work.  I've never seen Kate smile so much!! Check out the videos of us using the balls.  I was amazed at the number of people who wanted to have their faces "smushed!"  EVERYONE commented on how relaxing the ball rolling/deep pressure exercise was.  We started our week with good positive energy.

Rise and Shine Yoga

Sophie and Mae in "Double Dog."
We've been having lots of fun the last few weeks at yoga club.  We have done partner yoga, the train game and this week we even did a set inspired by Opening Day of baseball season. Everyone gave the "Double Dog," pose a try.  It was exciting to see everyone focus and give it a shot.  No one said, "I can't."  We sure did a lot of laughing which was good for our soul.  We have learned much about breathing, tried different poses, participated in meditations and played cooperative games!  Everyone is so relaxed when they head out to class after yoga on Monday mornings.  It's wonderful to hear so many students  tell me that they have been using yoga breathing and yoga strategies during the MCAS testing. Yoga is a life long gift that you give to yourself-great job yogis!

Rise and Shine Yoga

It was a great 2nd week at Rise and Shine Yoga.  We did "yoga for anxiety," to combat any stress that may occur during the upcoming state tests, and as anew  tool for our yoga tool box.  We talked about being in our breath awareness and did several variations on the triangle pose (downward dog).  We played a fun game, called Rainbow Bridge as a way to practice triangle pose.  Next time we'll remember to stand like tall trees as we wait our turn to go under the bridge.

Rise and Shine Yoga

We had a great first week at Rise and Shine Yoga!  It was wonderful to see so many familiar faces and to welcome some new friends.  The energy is this group is soulful.  We were able to do a quiet meditation for 2 minutes!  I have never had a starter class been able to do this, but their energy was such that I felt we good.  The smiles on faces after the meditation told me that we had done the right thing!
Please remember that class WILL NOT meet this Monday.  We will meet on Tuesday instead.

Rise and Shine Yoga

Hello!
This Monday will be the first Rise and Shine Yoga Club meetings.  Please arrive to JFK at 7:10 so I can let you into the building.  If I am not in the lobby, you will need to wait until Ms. DiPietro arrives in order to let you in.  Then just proceed to room 23.
Please note that class has been moved to Tuesday the 12th the following week, not Monday.  I need to attend training at Central Office on Monday and will not be at JFK.  Thanks.
Please have your child bring a towel and a water bottle to class.  There will be time to change into school clothes before the start of the day if desired.
Please email me before Sunday if you have any questions.
Thanks
Mrs. Williams
