Rise and Shine Yoga

We started our week back to school from vacation with a very energizing, yet relaxing yoga class. Everyone set their intention for class while thinking about the fact that there are only 42 more days of school left! We reviewed "being in our breath awareness," and introduced "breath of fire." Our set today was a yoga story called "walk in the woods." We encountered many different animals on our walk, ask your child to tell you about some of them. For our game today,we participated in a trust circle. Check out the video, we will be doing this activity again because so many yogis want their turn at being in the middle of the circle. Also, there is a new gadget called, "desk strategies." I am creating a list of yoga strategies for students to useat their desks, during the day. Finally, Mr. Williams has set me up with a Twitter account. When I figure out how to use that, I will be tweeting about yoga. I can't wait!

Thanks for sharing your children with me!

Asanas and Mudras-Archives

Here is Gracie in Cobra. This pose works on flexibility and releases tension.

Quote of the week-Archives

"Find your center, and don't let anyone or anything take you away from your center." Guruatma

Guruatma is so ON with this statement! This quote is one of the first ideas that I REALLY embraced when I started my yoga practice. It is so simple, yet can be so hard to do at times, especially when I let my ego get in the way! When I am in my center, nothing bothers me, I am productive, positive and full of energy. As soon as I start to drift away from my center, I get agitated, frustrated and focus on the negative. Taking a deep breath and finding my center is one of the best strategies I have for maintaining a yoga state of mind. Guruatma really knows what she is talking about!

Rise and Shine Yoga

Our first week of yoga was great! This is a very mellow group, so meditation and deep relaxation were awesome! It is nice to see so many yogis back for session two! I apologize for not having any pictures or videos from this week. I was so caught up in watching the sunrise, that I forgot my camera AND my school clothes! Did you see it? It was a gorgeous sunrise with many different shades of pink and red across the sky. I was really in a yog state of mind! Fortunately, Mr. Williams was able to bring my clothes to school before going to work himself. All of the yogis had a great hour of practice and told me that they were ready to start their week relaxed and focused. There will be pictures next week, so stay tuned!

Asanas and Mudras

Here is a new pose that I call "Little tree with a broken branch." You are a great sport, Addison!

Quote of the Week-Archives

"Get in a yoga state of mind." Guruatma Khalsa I have been working so hard on this one. When I am in a yoga state of mind, everything feels peaceful and life's stress doesn't bother me as much. I also find that I can deal with people more calmly when I am in a yoga state of mind. It's just not always easy to get there! I need to remember to breathe.
